Romantic things to do in Accra

Cantonments puts you in the middle of the best of it. A few ideas couples come back for, though it is worth checking current hours before you go, since Accra's dining scene moves quickly:

• A rooftop sunset. Sky Bar 25, on top of the Villaggio building, has the city's best-known skyline view for a drink as the light goes.
• A slow dinner. Santoku for a refined evening, or Bistro 22 in Labone, a long-running favourite, are both easy choices for a date night.
• A beach walk. Labadi is the lively one, with a quieter stretch of rocks at the far end. Bojo Beach, west of the city, is calmer and you cross a small lagoon by boat to reach it.
• Osu after dark. The Oxford Street area is full of restaurants, bars, and street food, so you can wander and pick as you go.
• A day in the hills. Aburi Botanical Gardens, about an hour north in the Akuapem hills, is cooler, green, and an easy half-day trip together.
• A bit of history. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, renovated in 2023, makes a calm, walkable afternoon in the centre.

When to come

Accra works year-round, but timing changes the feel. The dry season from November to March is the easiest for getting around. December is the liveliest, with Year of Return events and what locals call Detty December filling the city from Christmas into the new year, and it is also the busiest and priciest, so book early.
