Couples' Getaways in Accra: Romantic Things to Do for Two

A guide to the most romantic things to do in Accra, from sunset beaches to candlelit dinners, art, and a day in the hills, with a private apartment at Embassy Gardens as your base.

Accra is an easy city to be in love in. The romance is spread out though, across beaches on the coast, a dining strip in Cantonments and Osu, an art space out in East Legon, and the cool green hills at Aburi. Sunsets and slow mornings by the sea

The coast is the easiest romance in Accra. Each beach has a different mood, so pick by the evening you want.

• Labadi Beach. The lively one, with music, food, and the city's classic sunset. Walk to the quieter stretch of rocks at the far end for a calmer moment. It is about a ten minute drive from Cantonments.
• Bojo Beach. West of the city and much calmer. You cross a small lagoon by boat to reach the sand, which makes it feel like a little escape. Allow up to an hour each way.
• Kokrobite. Further west and laid-back, known for drumming and beach bars, good for a slow Sunday.

Dinner for two

Accra dines late and well. A few places couples come back for, though it is worth checking current hours since the scene moves quickly:

• Sky Bar 25. On top of the Villaggio building, the best-known rooftop for sunset drinks and a skyline view before dinner.
• Bistro 22. In Labone, a long-running favourite that has held a Ghana Tourist Authority restaurant of the year title, easy for a relaxed date night.
• Santoku. A refined, design-led dinner when you want to mark the occasion.
• Osu after dark. The Oxford Street area is full of restaurants, bars, and street food, so you can wander and pick as you go, from grilled kebabs to fried plantain.

Art, history, and culture together

For a slower afternoon side by side:

• Nubuke Foundation. A beautiful contemporary art space at 7 Lome Close in East Legon, open Tuesday to Saturday with free entry, plus a cafe and gift shop. About a fifteen to twenty minute drive from Cantonments.
• Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The mausoleum and museum for Ghana's first president, renovated and reopened in 2023, a calm and walkable hour in the centre.
• W.E.B. Du Bois Centre. The home and resting place of the scholar, here in Cantonments and a short walk from where you are staying.

Unwind with a couples spa

Sometimes the most romantic plan is doing very little. Several hotel spas take couples bookings, so reserve a treatment room ahead:

A day in the hills: Aburi

When you want to get out of the heat and the traffic, head up to Aburi Botanical Gardens, about an hour north in the Akuapem hills. It is cooler, green, and quiet, with shaded paths and old trees, the kind of place couples wander slowly and lose track of time. It is also a lovely, low-key spot for a proposal. Pack a light lunch or buy snacks on the way up.
